Sam Fowler Memorial Shoot 2017
Sunday 8th October 2017
Welcome to the First Whiteleaf Bowmen Sam Fowler Memorial Open Shoot .
Sam was a club member and a very popular and friendly archer who sadly died of cancer a
few years ago. Her husband, and the club, are hosting this tournament in her memory.
We will be shooting a Pope and Young round. The Pope and Young was, and as far as we
know, last shot as a national round, back in the 1930’s. It’s just the kind of shoot that Sam
would have loved. Be prepared for a day’s chaos and laughter.
Imagine a combination of target, field and speed shooting, and you’ll get pretty close to what
the shoot is all about.
The general idea is, every shot is at a different distance. There are five targets. They are laid
out in an arc where the closest is about 30 yards, and furthest about 70 yards.
Each ‘detail’ consists of five archers who are similarly positioned in an arc. After each ‘round’
of five arrows, the archers alter their shooting points.
One arrow is shot at each target in turn from each archer. Each five arrow ‘round’ is timed;
starting at 40 seconds and working down to 30, then 20 seconds.
Full details of the shoot will be included with the target list and explained again on the day.
Venue: Club Field, between Lacey Green and Walters Ash, Nr. Princes Risborough.
Assembly is at 10.15am. Shooting starts 10.30. No Sighters.
There will be a BBQ set up before the shoot for late breakfasts, and will open again at
lunchtime. Hot drinks will be available over the day except during shooting.
GNAS members welcome; remember to bring your card.
All profit from this shoot will be donated to Sam’s charity (Iain Rennie Hospice at Home), so
we know you will be happy with the fee of £10.00 per archer.
Recurve, Barebow and Longbows only please. Sorry, no compounds. The field is not large
and we deemed it unsuitable to include compounds. The nature of the round means we are
limited to 30 archers, so we will work on a first-come first-served basis, and a waiting list
